Backstory

A wild 1992 Mazda Miata, turning a whopping 29 years old very soon. Yet every matinence log is still in tact, and the chasis is still under 100000 miles. This car was bought at 76,000 miles when I turned 16 years old. It has been my introduction to starting work on automobiles, but spiraled out of control quite quickly. When the car was purchased it was nearly bone stock, but did have some cobalt low profile headlights, and a roll bar from hard dog. This was my goal, as I wanted to build the car myself and learn along the way. I started with ordering small exterior tidbits, such as a gv front lip and a vinyl windshield banner. This moved into small maintenance, spark plugs, air filter, and an oil change. Learning to drive the 5-speed manual was most of the challenge at the time.

Current

After the tail of the dragon, the bottom end had proven itself through the journey. Although, the head was no longer sealing well on cylinder 4. This lead to the head getting pulled back off, and upgrades ensue. With Hi-Flow valves, delta 272 camshafts, dual valve springs, and a new set of hydraulic lifters. Augusta Engine did the valve job and assembly, and then queue all the begi intake manifold problems. This has recently been resolved by going back to a modified stock intake manifold. The engine should be capable up to 9000rpm, and almost 600hp. Although, the current restriction has been driveline components. The vlsd differential has been shredded, and a torsen unit has been sourced.

Future

There are many goals for this build, sadly it takes a lot of time and money to get to a final product. After a 4.1 torsen type II differential is actually in the car, it is quite likely I will end the life of the stock 5-Speed transmission. While I do have a spare, that will allow me to find my limits, this is the next huge price hurdle to upgrade. Eventually I would like to get the miata re-painted, some 15x10 wheels with bigger tires, and a matching hardtop. The interior still needs to recieve a set of harnesses, as there is no airbags.
